Upper Cape Regional Technical School has announced that football head coach Mike Hernon will take over the position of athletic director from outgoing AD Mike Carrier.
Hernon, who has taught history at UCT since 2010, while at the same time taking over the football program, took the Rams to the Division 5 Super Bowl Championship in 2012. His gridiron squads have reached the playoffs twice since and won the Mayflower Athletic Conference in both 2013 and 2014. Last month he became a new father with the arrival of his son, Jack Robert Hernon.
In addition, Hernon has been the UCT junior varsity boys’ lacrosse coach for the last four years, a position from which he will step down in order to devote more time to his position as athletic director.
In his first year leading the athletic department, Hernon will be tasked with establishing a new ice hockey program during the 2014-15 winter season and next spring the girls’ lacrosse team is slated to take the field for its first varsity season.
