Falmouth Academy scored two goals in the first few minutes of the game on Wednesday as they handed Providence Country Day its second loss in a week.

This time FA scored a 4-2 victory as the Lady Mariners improved to 7-2-5 overall on the season. Senior striker Christina Nunley got an opportunistic first goal off a deflected goalie punt to get things going for FA. Senior winger Chloe Brake added the second marker for Falmouth 11 minutes later on a pass from Nunley. PCD came right back with a pair of goals in the next five minutes to knot the game, 2-2.

At halftime, Coach Don Swanbeck cautioned his players to play with more purpose away from the ball, and they did. FA came out sharper and got the go-ahead tally on a nifty through ball from Cassie Weare to Christie Brake who struck one right past the PCD goalie into the far corner to give FA a 3-2 lead in the 52nd minute.

Seven minutes later, FA got an insurance goal from senior Isabelle Camarra on what Coach Swanbeck called “the best goal of her career.” After senior midfielder Caity Walsh switched fields, Camarra took the ball all alone to the goal. The PCD goalie came out and cut down the angle perfectly, but Camarra hit a line-drive laser over the goalie’s outstretched arms and into the far triangle of the goal.
