Sandwich Wrestlers Win Rod Berry Tournament

 The Blue Knight wrestling team came out on top Saturday at the Rod Berry Memorial Team Tournament in Middleborough with wins over Tri-County (50-30), Josiah Quincy (54-28) and Dighton-Rehoboth (54-24) and in the championship round, defeated Bristol-Plymouth 64-18.

Senior captain Alex Vrountas was one of the Blue Knights to finish 4-0. Wrestling at 170 pounds, Vrountas pinned three opponents. Senior captain Kevin Wright (132 pounds) also finished the match 4-0 with three pins. Matt Landry was 4-0 with three pins and a tech fall in the 126-pound weight class. Greg Zaw, wrestling at 120 pounds, ended the day 4-0 with two pins and a tech fall. At 195 pounds Spencer Cleary stuck four opponents to the mat, finishing 4-0. Bryon Hopkins (106 pounds) also finished undefeated at 4-0 with two pins.

Jake Healy went 3-1 at 113 pounds, coming away with three pins, as did David Watt at 152 pounds and Marc Petersen at 220 pounds. Jake Sullivan ended the day 2-2 in the 160-pound weight class with two pins as did Patrick Sullivan at 182 pounds. Mike DeCoste was 1-1 in heavyweight with a pin. Alex Denmark was 1-1 at 120 pounds with a pin and Matt Petersen finished 1-3 at 138 pounds.
