The Bourne, Mashpee and Wareham girls’ hockey team (1-3) posted their first varsity win Saturday at the Falmouth Ice Arena in a 5-3 victory over Martha’s Vineyard. The combined team, now in their first varsity season, spread the puck around with a solid team effort backed by 23 saves from winning BMW goalie Ariel St. Germaine.

Dylan Innis took a pass from Natalia Gordon and put BMW on the scoreboard early in the opening period. The Vineyarders came back to tie the game, but Kate Albretsen put BMW back on top before the end of the first period with an unassisted effort for a 2-1 lead.

Martha’s Vineyard once again tied the game with a goal early in the second stanza, but Shayna Santiago found Brittney St. Germaine who drilled the back of the net for a 3-2 BMW lead after two periods of play. In the first minute of the final period, Elizabeth St. Germaine, with an assist from Albretsen, gave BMW a 4-2 lead. The Vineyarders cut the lead to one goal, but Nicole Anthony iced the game with the fifth BMW tally, assisted by Gordon.

The Vineyarders outshot BMW 26-19. The combined team was edged by Latin Academy last week by a score of 4-3. Albretsen scored twice with Elizabeth St. Germaine adding a goal, assisted by Albretsen. Anthony, Monica Conway and Elizabeth St. Germaine assisted on the two Albretsen goals.
