Sandwich Swimmers Sink Pope John Paul 2

 The Lady Knight swimming and diving team won all three relays and five individual events Wednesday as they defeated Pope John Paul II by a score of 83-78. There was no boys’ competition.

Sandwich started off with a winning swim in the medley relay by Cat Felicetti, Emily McMahon. Kaitlyn Scott and Sarah Briggs recording a time of 2:09.97. The Lady Knight team of Maddie Esdale, Gabby Ryan, Cathy Dennis and Katie Hurley swam second in 2:23.05.

The Lions won the next three events, with Carly Forrester (2:26.33) taking second in the 200 freestyle, Cat Felicetti (2:34.27) swimming second in the individual medley and Mariah Lang (31.74) finishing second in the 50 freestyle.

The Lady Knights took first place in the 1-meter diving with Maggie Garrahan finishing with 208.20 points. Megan Forrester (186.15) took second and Mackenzie Hagist (185.62) completed the sweep taking third place.

Scott picked up a win for the Knights in the butterfly winning in 1:10.78 and Briggs (1:02.77) won the 100 freestyle. McMahon (6:21.41) swam second in the 500 freestyle and Alex Wright (6;46.15) was third.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Felicetti, McMahon, Scott and Briggs won with a time of 1:57.39. Carly Forrester, Christina Murray, Ryan and Hurley were second at 2:03.78. The 200 freestyle relay was the final event in which SHS took points.

Sandwich swept the backstroke with Sophia Felicetti (1:27.96) first, Maranda Swift (1:28.03) second and Candice Burke (1:29.23) third. The Lady Knights also swept the breaststroke with Scott (1:22.25) winning it, Ryan (1:25.30) swimming second and Carly Forrester (1:27.50) finishing third.

The Sandwich 400 freestyle relay team of Cat Felicetti, Murray, Briggs and Carly Forrester finished first in 4:24.28.
The Sandwich boys’ swimming and diving team finished second on Saturday at the Cape Cod Classic on Nantucket. The host Whalers won the boys’ competition.

The Blue Knights got first place finishes from Alex Simpson, with a Nantucket pool record, Cape Cod Classic record and state qualifying time of 1:52.51 in the 200 freestyle. Simpson previously held the Classic record in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:52.82 set last year.

Simpson also won the 500 freestyle with a state qualifying time of 5:04.13 and he was a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay team along with Brian Hann, Mike Deptula and Brian Cundiff with posted a sectional qualifying time of 3:40.31.

Cundiff won the butterfly with a swim of 59.22. He finished second in the individual medley at 2:16.97 and second in the medley relay along with Hann, Simpson and Deptula with a time of 1:52.15.

The Knights got third place finishes from Hann (2:18.90) in the individual medley, Jake Kangas (152.75) in diving and Deptula (58.04) in the 100 freestyle.

The Lady Knights finished fourth, with the Nauset girls winning the event. Cat Felicetti (2:10.25) swam second in the 200 freestyle, posted a sectional qualifying time in the 100 freestyle of 59.81 for third place and was a member of the third place 400 freestyle relay team along with Kyra Crossman, Emily McMahon and Sarah Briggs that swam a time of 4:06.50.
Maggie Garrahan finished second in diving with 200.15 points and Megan Forrester (196.50) took third.
