Chad Marsh scored four times last night in Bourne’s 7-1 victory over Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. The win pulls the Canalmen to within a game of the state tournament at 9-7-1 with three games to play. Bourne faces Dennis-Yarmouth (8-11) Saturday at Tony Kent Arena at 7:20 PM.
Marsh scored his first goal of the night 10:39 into the opening period, slapping home a rebound in front of the GNBVT net. The Canalmen did a nice job skating on the penalty kill in the first quarter and Mike Wiggin knocked down a 1-on-1 breakaway, the first of a series of three quality saves in the period.
Marsh scored again in the second period at the 5:29 mark and John Connolly put BHS up 3-0 two minutes later when he chipped in the rebound of a shot by Mitchell Eldridge.
Bourne dominated the opening three minutes of the third period, with five shots on goal. Marsh collected his hat trick 1:55 into the third with a slap shot from the right side. A BHS penalty put the Canalmen back on defense and at the 4:28-mark the Bears broke into the scoring column with Myles Bettencourt lifting a rebound over the stick of Mike Wiggin.
Marsh added his fourth goal of the night two minutes later for a 5-1 Bourne lead. Devin Brito scored with 5:03 left, unassisted from the right side, and with 34 seconds remaining Jared Butler drove home the seventh tally with his first varsity goal.
Wiggin played a very good game in net for the Canalmen making 25 saves.
Austin Braley, Harrison Eddy, Ed Lavelle and Brito each finished the night with two assists.
