Bourne Celebrates Successful Sports Season

Bourne High School held its annual Fall Sports Awards Night Monday, recognizing this fall’s student-athletes and teams for their accomplishments.

Leading the list with some of the top honors was boys’ soccer goalie, senior Devin Delfino, who received South Coast Conference All-Star recognition as well as All-State. Delfino was also named the team Most Valuable Player.

The Canalmen finished the regular season at 11-2-5. Seeded fifth in Division 3 South, Bourne won their first round match 3-1 over East Bridgewater. The Canalmen fell on penalty kicks in the quarterfinal round, 1-0, to Cohasset ending the season at 12-3-5.

Also receiving SCC All-Star recognition in boys’ soccer ws senior Kyle Johnston, who was also named an Eastern Mass All-Star and MVP along with Delfino.Dan Moscaritolo and Luke Weatherby were named to the SCC All-Star team, with Jack Canterbury and Nik Gabriel landing SCC All-Star honorable mention. Ben Cahill received the SCC and team sportsmanship awards.

The Arki Award this year, presented by Coach Andrew Arki, recognized the entire 2010 boys’ soccer team for their outstanding achievements.

Molly Cahill and Katelyn Hourihan received SCC All-Star recognition for the Lady Canalmen soccer squad. Bourne finished up the regular season with a record of 9-5-5 and was seeded 12th in Division 2 South. The Lady Canalmen faced Cardinal Spellman High School in the first round of the state tournament, falling 3-1.

Danielle Kent and Jessica Klier both received SCC All-Star honorable mention. Kent was also named the team MVP and Klier was named most improved. Mackenzie Hyldburg received the SCC sportsmanship award and Hourihan took home the team sportsmanship award.

The Lady Canalmen volleyball team closed out the regular season with a record of 13-5. Seeded fifth in Division 2 South, BHS defeated Silver Lake in the quarterfinal round of the tournament by a score of 3-1. Bourne then faced Fairhaven in the semifinal round, falling 3-0 to the Blue Devils.

Senior Sarah Hannon was named to the SCC All-Star team, with Brenna Forsberg and Alyssia Janak receiving SCC All-Star honorable mention. Senior Kaitlyn Stuck received both the SCC and the team sportsmanship awards.

Annie Blegen and Erin O’Rourke-Robbins were named to the SCC All-Star team in field hockey this fall. Bourne finished the regular season with a record of 6-5-7 and entered the state tournament in the preliminary round losing to Dover-Sherborn, 5-0.

Amber Prevey and goalie Devin O’Rourke-Robbins received SCC All-Star honorable mention with Brooke Robinson collecting the SCC sportsmanship award and the team’s coaches award. Emily Cheney received the MASE award presented by Coach Christine Mason and Blegen was named the top defender.

The Canalmen golf team wrapped up their season on the links at 15-2-1. Michael Byron and Matt Crowley were named to the SCC All-Star team. Byron was also named the team MVP, with Crowley earning most improved. Sean Griffith and Edwin Gendron received SCC All-Star honorable mention. Griffith also collected the team sportsmanship award. Mitchell Hebb took home the SCC sportsmanship award.

Hunter Silva and Lucas Roy received SCC All-Star honorable mention in boys’ cross-country, with Silva also named the team MVP. Kevin Cole was named most improved, with Robert Ruggeri taking home the team sportsmanship award.

In girls’ cross-country Rebecca Lewis and Molina Oung were named SCC All-Star honorable mention. Lewis also received the team MVP. Morgan Flannery received most improved and Kaleigh Sullivan earned the team sportsmanship award.

In cheerleading Jenna Breault was named the MVP, Brittany Malouin received most improved and Brianna Rogers took home the team sportsmanship award.

In football Sam Schrader, Zach Chick, Joe Epps, and John Page all received SCC All-Star recognition. Jesse Burgess and Drew Girouard were named SCC All-Star honorable mention and Jim Halliday received the SCC sportsmanship award. Other award winners in football will be named next month at the team banquet.
