Saints Get Sunk, Red Raiders Splash Their Way To Victory

The Barnstable High girls’ swimming team proved to be more like a tidal wave on Tuesday as the Red Raiders left visiting Sacred Heart in the shallow end of the pool en route to the 110-31 win at the YMCA pool in West Barnstable.
The Red Raiders improved to 5-0 on the season by taking first-place finishes in all 11 events led by the relay team of Rainey Kelly, Rachel Butler, Lindsey Partin and Hayley Weik, who combined to win the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay races as well as going solo to give the Red Raiders first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle, the 200 individual medley, the 100 freestyle, the 100 backstroke and the 100 breaststroke events.
The Saints never really knew what hit them as Weik, Partin, Butler and Kelly led a Barnstable sweep in the 200 medley relay, turning in a first-place time of 2:10.06 with the quartet of Julia Wareham, Christi Partin, Camille Young and Kelsey Rudeck taking second place in a time of 2:12 and the foursome of Lucey Gorrill, Meg Mamlock, Alyssa Nastri and Emma Crowley completing the sweep with their third place finish in a time of 2:44.67.
The Red Raiders followed with another sweep as Kelly (2:12), Christi Partin (2:32) and Kristina Atsalis (2:50) went 1-2-3 respectively in the 200 freestyle.Lindsey Partin and Picabo Miskiv kept the BHS points rolling in the 200 individual medley with Partin finishing first in a time of 2:21.06 and Miskiv claiming second place with her personal-best time of 2:44.
Weik paced another Barnstable sweep as she swam to a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a personal-best time of :26.22 with Wareham taking second place in a time of :27.87 and Mamlock sealing the deal with her third-place time of :27.95.
Butler kept the run of first-place finishes intact as she led a BHS sweep in the 100 freestyle, topping the field with a personal-best time of :58.94 while Kelly placed second in a time of 1:02 and Wareham put on the finishing touch with her third-pace time of 1:04.
The Red Raiders took the top spot in the meet’s long distance event as Emma Gauthier swam her way to a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle in a personal-best time of 7:15 with teammate Jess Dooling finishing in third place with a personal-best time of 7:23 and Olivia Brodt giving the Red Raiders the fifth-place points with her time of 7:45.
Lindsey Partin, Butler, Weik and Kelly put another first-place finish in their meet resume when they teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:49.81 and got the best kind of back up when Brochu, Wareham, Cali Conroy and Mamlock came through with a second-place finish in a time of 1:57.13.
Butler recorded her second individual first-place finish when she won the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:06.42 with Crowley (1:18) and Grace Boudreau (1:23) finishing second and third, respectively after which Lindsey Partin, Christi Partin and Miskiv wracked up another BHS sweep, this time in the 100 breaststroke.
Lindsey topped the field with her time of 1:14.33 followed by Christi in second place with a time of 1:23.74 and Miskiv in third place with a time of 1:26.13.
The Red Raiders’ night ended as it began with a 1-2 finish in a relay race as Crowley, Nastri, Gorrill and Atsalis combined to win the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:49.96 and just edged teammates Conroy, Dooling, Gauthier and Mamlock, who finished in second place with a time of 4:51.06.
