The Barnstable High girls’ swim team, fresh off their impressive team performance at the Bay Colony Conference championships, padded their 2010-11 resume by placing third at the South Sectional Meet at the MIT pool last Sunday.
The Red Raiders, who were at a distinct disadvantage because, unlike the first- and second-place finishers, they don’t field any divers in the meet, still amassed a total of 122 points and set two school records.
They wound up finishing behind Gardner (182 points) and Duxbury (157 points) and just ahead of fourth-place Westborough (119 points).
The Red Raiders got their day off to a good start as the 200 medley relay team of Rachel Butler, Lindsay Partin, Hayley Weik and Rainey Kelly took second place in the event with a school record time of 1:53.48.
Kelly then swam her way to a 15th place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:07.15 after which Hayley Weik turned in a personal best time of :25.3 to claim fourth place in the 50 freestyle race.
The Red Raiders also got strong performances in the 50 from Taylor Brochu (17th place, personal best time of :26.63), Meg Mamlock (22nd place, personal best time of :26.93) and Julia Wareham (:27.58).
After Brochu (personal best time of 1:08.9) and Camille Young (1:11.49) competed for the Red Raiders in the 100 butterfly event, Partin swam her way to a fourth-place finish in the 200 individual medley with a personal best time of 2:13.44.
Brochu came through with a seventh-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:32.54 and the 200 freestyle relay team of Wareham, Mamlock, Brochu and Picabo Miskiv followed with a 10th-place finish in a season’s best time of 1:49.41.
Butler gave the Red Raiders the fifth-place points in the 100 backstroke with her personal best time of 1:02.18 while Young finished in 16th place with a time of 1:07.2.
The 100 breaststroke provided a second BHS school record when Partin claimed third place in the event with her time of 1:08.55, bettering the previous BHS-best time set by Christen Dexter (1:09.65) in the 1999-2000 season.
The Red Raiders’ 400 relay team of Butler, Partin, Kelly and Weik closed out the meet by combining to take third place in a season’s best time of 3:45.68.
