On Sunday, August 3, up to 5,800 cyclists will be riding through Bourne and Sandwich as the 35th annual Pan-Mass Challenge passes through Cape Cod.
Participants are hoping to raise $40 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund.
The event begins on Saturday, August 2, in Sturbridge and Wellesley, with riders reaching Bourne by the end of the first day. Riders, many of whom will spend Saturday night at Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, will cross the Bourne Bridge Sunday morning, ride along the Cape Cod Canal and into Sandwich. The course will travel from Freezer Road in Sandwich to Tupper Road and Main Street, along Water Street, under Route 6 and onto the Service Road and into West Barnstable, finishing later Sunday afternoon in Provincetown.
Cyclists from 34 states and nine countries will join together to ride up to 190 miles, over one or two days, traveling through 46 towns across Massachusetts. Potential traffic delays should be expected along the route.
