Sandwich Little League’s Championship Saturday will be held on June 21 at the Henry T. Wing School after being postponed the previous weekend because of bad weather.
This year there will be expanded skills competitions for younger age groups in addition to the traditional National and American League championship games.
The day starts at noon with the AAA skills competition. Players will compete in either a Road Runner, Golden Arm or Home Run Derby competition. The Road Runner winner will be the player who runs the fastest around the bases, while the Golden Arm will be earned by the player demonstrating the best accuracy on a throw from second base to home. A temporary fence at a shorter distance for the 9- and 10-year-old players to compete in a Home Run Derby will be installed.
At 2 PM the National League, composed of 10- and 11-year-olds, will hold a similar skills competition, followed by the 11- and 12-year-old American Leaguers at 4 PM. In-between those two league competitions, Sandwich Little League will be handing out its Little Scholar and Bellis Scholarship awards.
The day will conclude with the National League and American League championship games at 7 PM.
