Sandwich Senior Babe Ruth (12-4) wrapped up the regular season on Monday with a 6-2 victory over Yarmouth-Dennis in South Yarmouth. Sandwich, who finished second in league play behind Lower Cape, began playoff action last night hosting Barnstable.
Sandwich opened Monday’s game with just nine players. J.V. Rudowski, not normally a pitcher, took the mound holding Y-D to two runs on two hits in four innings. Jacob Golden took over on the hill in the fifth, surrendering just one hit the rest of the way.
Tied at 2-2 after five innings, Sandwich broke the game open in the top of the sixth. Matt Dahl walked and went to second on a base hit by Chris Jones. Tyler Moffa then singled to load the bases for Kris Carpenter, whose base hit drove in two Sandwich runs.
Rudowski and Golden then each drew walks, once again loading the bases. Brian Daly then delivered a two-run base hit.
The Cape Cod Senior Babe Ruth All-Star team will begin New England Regional Championship play this weekend at Veterans Field in Chatham tomorrow. Sandwich has 10 players on the Eastern Massachusetts State Championship team that will begin play at 4 PM against Worcester. The final round of the Regional Championship will be Sunday at Whitehouse Field in Harwich.
