Five Falmouth High School students were awarded prizes in art and writing in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition, which has been held annually since 1923.

Senior Andrew Bielinski won two awards for his writing: a silver key for his short story “On Meeting with Dranum” and an honorable mention for his science fiction piece, “Circumstances.” Andrew submitted his work to the competition through his teacher, Sarah Cox, the head of the English department for the Falmouth Public Schools.

Art students receiving awards included senior Eloise Mills, who received an honorable mention in the drawing category for “April Showers”; junior Ava Norris, who received an honorable mention in printmaking for “Beach Fence”; and senior Erin Furey, who also received an honorable mention in printmaking for her print “Prominent Phytoplankton.” All three award recipients are students of art teacher Jane Baker.

Senior Malia Jablecki received a silver key in ceramics for her piece, “Cardinals Appear When Angels Are Near.” Malia is taught by Corine Adams, ceramics teacher at Falmouth High.
