The fourth annual PorchFest is planned for Sunday, October 13, from 1 to 4 PM in Sandwich. Live music will be heard from the porches of homes and shops throughout the town.
Organized by the Sandwich Arts Alliance, Sandwich PorchFest is in keeping with the national PorchFest movement, which purportedly started in 2007 in Ithaca, New York. Similar events have occurred throughout the year in about six towns in Massachusetts, including Wellfleet, with an emphasis on unamplified, acoustic music, and building community.
Last year’s Sandwich PorchFest drew more than 1,200 attendees.
Sandwich Arts Alliance member Kim Moberg, a singer, recruited the talent for this year’s event.
Shops and cafes will be open during the event, and maps will be available online and at all porches to guide visitors along the walkable trail. The performers are all Sandwich Arts Alliance musicians who will play two 90-minute sets along Main Street, School Street, Jarves Street and Route 6A.
Free to the public, this year’s locations include Beth’s Bakery, Stephanie’s, Sandwich Antiques Center, Modern Vintage, The Weather Store, St. John’s Parish House, Home for the Holidays, Sandwich Public Library and several homes on Main and School streets.
Rain date is October 14.
A map and schedule are also available at www.sandwichartsalliance.org or at the Sandwich Arts Alliance Center at 124 Route 6A.
