The final lecture of the Falmouth Chorale Fall 2020 series will be presented online Sunday, December 6, at 4 PM. This virtual talk with artistic director Krishan Oberoi will focus on the “little match girl” passion by David Lang.

With its vivid, wintry textures, David Lang’s “little match girl” passion has become a recent holiday tradition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The composer has reflected on Hans Christian Andersen’s haunting folk tale of “The Little Match Girl” with these words: “There is a kind of naive equilibrium between suffering and hope.”

Taking as his point of departure Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion,” Mr. Lang infuses the Bach passion narrative with new meaning by retelling the “Little Match Girl” story through the traditional baroque form. The choral masterpiece won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2008.

To attend the virtual lecture, register via www.falmouthchorale.org

The fee to attend the lecture is $12. A Zoom link for the lecture will be sent out on Saturday, December 5.
