Wellfleet Unbox

Movimento Project dancer Diana Kenney in “Unbox,” a contemporary dance show being performed this weekend in Wellfleet.

UnBox – Movimento V, a contemporary dance show, will be the first program for this year’s Movimento Project, a regional contemporary dance initiative directed by Leda Muhana and David Iannitelli.

This year’s show features the live musical collaborations of Lary Chaplan and Frank Poransky and a company of 12 dancers performing shows for all ages at Wellfleet Preservation Hall Saturday at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $20 and are available by calling 508-349-1800 or online through the venue’s website.

The theme of the show derives from boxes. Our rooms and buildings, beds and chairs and tables, modes of transport and civic boundaries, all arise from boxes. How does the logic of the box affect our bodies and movement, our perceptions and projections of reality and possibility? What exists only because boxes exist? And what exists beyond the box?

Based in Brewster, The Movimento Project combines local talent with international connections in a program of artistic residences, public workshops and multiple performances throughout the year.
