Green Briar Cranberries (1)

Cranberries are ready to be cooked in celebration of Cape Cod Cranberry Day at the Green Briar Nature Center.

The Green Briar Nature Center & Jam Kitchen in East Sandwich will host its 19th Annual Cape Cod Cranberry Day Saturday, October 12, from 11 AM to 3 PM. The center will celebrate this native berry with cooking demonstrations in its historic 1903 Jam Kitchen using traditional cranberry recipes.

Visitors can enjoy a cranberry apple crumble dessert served in the kitchen for a $5 fee. There will be a sale featuring cranberry baked goods, and a tour of the neighboring cranberry bog at 11 AM and 1:15 PM for $3 per person. Families are invited to a “Frog in the Bog” story time at noon, as well as some time for fun crafts. Visitors can also view the gallery exhibit covering the life and works of the prolific children’s author and naturalist, Thornton W. Burgess; look for the queen bee in the center’s indoor bee hive; and purchase jams, jellies, Burgess books, and a wide variety of nature–related items in Green Briar’s shop. Finally guests can visit the nature center’s resident animals and stroll the grounds around the Smiling Pool.

Green Briar is at 6 Discovery Hill Road, just off Route 6A in East Sandwich.
