As part of what it is dubbing “Falmouth Celebrates,” the Falmouth Fireworks Committee is sponsoring a 4th of July Home and Business Decorating Contest with prizes to be awarded in various categories. Entry is open to all homes and businesses within the village of Falmouth. There is no entry fee, although donations to Falmouth Fireworks are appreciated. Registration forms are available on the committee’s website, by visiting the committee’s Facebook page and also at the Gallery on Main, 317 Main Street in Falmouth.

“The executive board was meeting twice a month and pondering what other things we could do to bring the community together to celebrate with an annual event,” said Carolyn Woods, chairperson of the fireworks committee. “Something that would involved both businesses and residents.”

Ms. Woods said that the committee’s vision is to host the contest, judge the homes and businesses, and then to create a town map that people could follow in their cars to circle the town at their own pace and view the decorated homes the way families might go out in their cars to look at Christmas lights.

Businesses will be able to win what Ms. Woods hope will become a coveted plaque to put in their shop window for the year, with the name of the winning business and subsequent years’ winners engraved onto it.

Winning homes will receive yard signs proclaiming their win in various categories.

“We want to keep things positive and spirited,” said Ms. Woods.

Completed registration forms may be dropped off at the Gallery On Main or mailed to Falmouth Fireworks, PO Box 500, Falmouth, MA 02541. Forms can also be emailed to

Registration forms must be received by 5 PM on Wednesday, June 16.

Decorations must be completed by noon on Sunday, June 27, when judging will take place. Participants agree to have a photo of their decorated home or business posted on Falmouth Fireworks’ website and Facebook page. A map of all decorated homes and business will be prepared so that residents may drive by and appreciate them. Names of residents will not be disclosed.

All residents within the villages of Falmouth are eligible to participate whether their residence is a single-family, townhouse, apartment, or duplex. All businesses within the Falmouth villages are also eligible.

Prizes will be awarded to homes in the following categories: most creative, most patriotic and judge’s choice. One prize will be awarded to a business in the most attractive category.
