F Village Gallery

Husband and wife artists Ronnie and Mindy Reasonover have moved their art gallery from East Falmouth to West Falmouth. They will celebrate the grand opening of the Village Gallery tomorrow from 6 to 9 PM.

After five years as Great Expectation Gallery on East Falmouth Highway, husband and wife artists Ronnie and Mindy Reasonover have moved their gallery to West Falmouth, across from the West Falmouth Market.

The Reasonovers will host an opening reception for the renamed Village Gallery on Saturday from 6 to 9 PM. The public is invited.

“We feel like this was meant to be,” Mindy said of the move.

The building, which is adjacent to Eulinda’s Ice Cream and the Village Café, has several rooms for gallery space, plus a porch and a front yard where work can be displayed.

Space is important because the Reasonovers often work big.

They are known for bold, larger-than-life paintings. Mindy creates joyous paintings of flowers, hydrangeas, hollyhocks, and sunflowers, plus oil paintings of colorful lobster buoys, in bold colors on big canvases.

Ronnie also paints in vibrant colors; cityscapes and Key West vistas, as well as unexpected Cape Cod scenes, many that portray landscapes not generally rendered in paintings, including roadways and bold street signs. Ronnie is also known for his wood carvings, often of maritime life both real and mythical.

“There’s a whole different vibe here,” Mindy said of the West Falmouth location. “We’re getting tons of walk-in people.”

Mindy said they’ve had a lot of foot traffic, plus people driving over from their old location: “We’ve been meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends. It’s nice to have a change. We feel invigorated.”

One thing they’ve noticed is that they are selling more small works in their new location. “People who walk in tend to buy smaller pieces,” Mindy said. A lot of the work is being sold to summer visitors to use as hostess gifts.

In addition to gallery space the new location has outbuildings where the two artists can store their supplies. “It’s wonderful,” Mindy said.

The location also affords Mindy the room to continue her Tuesday morning painting classes. “I have eight to 10 year-round students and in the summer the number balloons up,” she said. Classes are ongoing from 10 AM to 12:30 PM on Tuesdays. Anyone can join at anytime; those interested just need to let Mindy know they are coming. “You can stop in at the gallery and talk to me,” she said, “or reach out on Facebook.” While classes usually take place outside, Mindy feels confident that “there’s enough room that if it rains I can direct everyone inside and we can set up tables in here.”

The Reasonovers plan to try out some evening hours in their new location. They are thinking especially about Thursday nights to coincide with live music and barbecue at the West Falmouth Market.

“We’ll probably have some Friday and Saturday evening hours as well,” Mindy said.

“It’s all about the village,” Ronnie said. “This is a nice little village, there are a lot of things happening.”
