The newly established Cordial Eye Gallery and Artist Space in downtown Hyannis will present its first exhibition “Repelling vs Welcoming Spaces,” featuring art installations, photography, and paintings by Colgan Johnson and Heidi Blunt. An opening reception will be held tonight from 7 to 9 PM with complimentary refreshments and additional concession items for sale.

This event is open to the public. Suggested donation is $10.

The opening will be followed by a panel discussion on Saturday at 5 PM hosted by Anastaci Pacella. Panelists include Colgan Johnson, Robin Miller, Lara Silberklang, and Amanda Coleman. Similar to the exhibit, the panel will explore matters of representation and inclusion in community spaces and institutions especially within the art world. Such a discussion is poignant not only upon The Cordial Eye’s gallery opening but in light of recent allegations of racism at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston this past May. The panel discussion is free to the public with a suggested donation of $10. Doors will open at 4:30 PM on Saturday and will remain open until 8 PM for gallery viewing.
