Sandwich Village PorchFest 2021 will take place in Sandwich Village on Saturday, September 18, from 1 to 4 PM, with a rain date of Sunday, September 19.
The event was founded by singer-songwriter Kim Moberg, who performed at the Wellfleet PorchFest in 2016 and brought the concept to the Sandwich Arts Alliance. This will be the fifth annual PorchFest held in Sandwich.
“The annual Sandwich Arts Alliance PorchFest combines the best of music and community,” Ms. Moberg said. “Visitors from near and far return each year to hear their favorite musicians, learn about new artists and soak in the unique beauty of Sandwich Village.”
People from the Cape community and beyond are invited to listen to musicians perform on residential, business and church “porches” throughout an easy walking route along Main, Jarves and School streets in Sandwich village. The performers are local artists of various ages and genres including Americana, folk, singer-songwriter, rock, classic, jazz and traditional Irish music.
Attendees will be given maps outlining the PorchFest route with details showing the location where each musician is performing, allowing them to stroll from porch to porch at their own pace and experience an array of live music styles throughout the afternoon. PorchFest is a free, family-friendly, fully outdoor event with free parking available throughout the village.
“Porchfest music festivals began as a means for neighbors and local community members to highlight their music on front porches,” Ms. Moberg said. “Last year, during the COVID lockdown, we were determined to continue with PorchFest by moving it from village porches to Zoom, which resulted in people from all over the map streaming the event. This year musicians are eager to perform outside again.”
PorchFest 2019, the last in-person incantation of the event, had more than 2,500 attendees. Typically all acoustic, PorchFests are held annually across the United States and Canada on front porches. Local communities who celebrate PorchFest include Wellfleet and Reading, although Ithaca, New York, has been credited with launching the first official PorchFest in 2007.
The list of performers, times and locations for PorchFest will be posted on the Sandwich Arts Alliance website.
