Applications are now being accepted for the West Falmouth Library’s two scholarship funds, the Arthur F. Hennessey Jr. memorial fund and the Colonial Scholarship fund. Complete information and applications are available on the library’s website. Applications are due by April 10.
In addition to assisting students with furthering their education, this scholarship award honors the memory of Arthur F. Hennessey Jr., who gave his life in Vietnam on April 19, 1965, fighting for the American ideal of freedom for all. Mr. Hennessey valued enormously the sense of community and goodwill that he found in his hometown of West Falmouth. As the scholarship honors Arthur F. Hennessey Jr., this $3,000 scholarship will be offered to one high school senior who meets the following criteria: resides in West Falmouth or can demonstrate strong ties to the community of West Falmouth; and who attends Falmouth High School, Falmouth Academy, Sturgis Charter Public School, or homeschool.
The Colonial Dames of the National Society of America is an organization that actively promotes national heritage through historic preservation, patriotic service and educational projects. Designed to ease the costs of higher education, this $2,500 scholarship will be offered to one high school senior who meets the following criteria: resides in Falmouth, East Falmouth, North Falmouth, West Falmouth or Woods Hole; attends Falmouth High School, Falmouth Academy, Sturgis Charter Public School, or homeschool; demonstrates academic excellence, participation in school and community activities, and financial need.
A selection committee will meet to review applications for the two scholarships and award the scholarships at the annual meeting.
