James (Jay) McMahon III (R-Bourne), candidate for the Massachusetts State Senate, called for an immediate meals tax holiday for when restaurants reopen.
“Not only are people fearing the COVID-19 Virus, but they are also fearing the economic fallout and chaos from the mandatory government-ordered business shutdowns. We will need to immediately get people back out to eating in at our local restaurants, and try to make up for the lost business revenue and wages during these mandatory shutdowns,” Mr. McMahon said.
Mr. McMahon is proposing that the state forego the meals tax for 30 days to encourage people to patronize local businesses that suffered from shutdowns. Mr. McMahon is also proposing lifting the ban on “happy hours” in order to achieve this same purpose.
