George W. Weinert, 79, of Pocasset died on August 18.

Born in Englewood, New Jersey, Mr. Weinert was a graduate of St. Rose High School in Belmar, New Jersey, and Villanova University.

An avid sailor and skier, he was active for many years in the Pelagic Sailing Club, Blue Water Sailing Club, Red Brook Harbor Yacht Club and the White Mountain Ski Runners. His stories of schussing down the slopes were rivaled only by his tales of adventure on the high seas. The adventure of his life was sailing to the Bahamas, and beyond, with his wife and many friends aboard their sailboat Snowflake.

Mr. Weinert enjoyed activities with St. John the Evangelist Parish, the Knights of Columbus and supporting local and national political campaigns.

He leaves his wife, Ann (Russo) Weinert, son Christopher Weinert, and his wife, Bridget Weinert, of Pocasset; a granddaughter; a sister; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM Friday, August 23 at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 West Falmouth Highway (Route 28A).

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 24 at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Parish, 841 Shore Road, in Pocasset.
