Bourne Public Schools are getting into the giving spirit with several collection events happening throughout the next month.
At Bournedale Elementary School, a box has been placed in the main office where students can deposit old prescription eyeglasses. The glasses are being collected as part of a Bourne Middle School Bourne Leadership Academic Service Team (BLAST) service project.
All of the glasses collected will be donated to the Bourne-Sandwich Lions Club, which will in turn have them repaired and donated to people in need.
Students at Bourne Intermediate School have several collections that are currently in effect.
Through Friday, November 22, students have been asked to bring in non-perishable food items that would be a complement to a Thanksgiving dinner. Items on the list include instant mashed potatoes, canned or fresh sweet potatoes, stuffing mix, gravy, cranberry sauce, butternut squash, canned vegetables, Bisquick or cornbread mix, marshmallows, macaroni and cheese, fried onions, cream of mushroom soup, rice, canned soup, broth, juice, non-refrigerated pie crust, pie filling, pudding and Jell-O mix, tin foil, and aluminum pans.
Also at the intermediate school, students are collecting items to be sent to Americans serving overseas in the military. Suggested items include deodorant, shower gel, toothpaste, facial tissues, socks, Chapstick, instant coffee single-use packets, and granola bars. Small items that could be used as stocking stuffers are being requested, as well.
This collection will run through Tuesday, November 26.
On Saturday, December 14, the Bourne School bus drivers will be hosting their annual Stuff-A-Bus event at the intermediate school. This event will run from 9 AM to 4 PM.
People interested in donating are asked to bring an unwrapped gift appropriate for a child between the ages of preschool and middle school. All gifts collected will be distributed to a child within the Bourne community who is in need.
