Bournedale Elementary School kicked off its “Read Across America” program last week, which included a book-tasting event, “Bourne Bistro,” for elementary school students.
The event was held last Thursday, March 2, for prekindergarten through 2nd grade students and their families to sample different genres of books. Bournedale’s cafeteria was transformed into a restaurant complete with tablecloths, candlelight and flower table settings, while staff members dressed in aprons and chef hats.
Students were able to sample literature from 10 genres of books. According to the district’s press release, about 30 families were in attendance and discussed different genres of literature with their children. Students also had the opportunity to take home donated books and create their own bookmarks.
Bournedale celebrated Read Across America this week with a variety of themed spirit days and activities designed to help students explore and appreciate reading and different genres.
