A man from Cataumet has been cited for causing a two-vehicle crash that led to traffic delays near the Sagamore Bridge.

The crash happened shortly after 5 PM on Sunday, November 15, by the intersection of Sandwich Road and the Mid-Cape Connector.

Bourne Police Lieutenant John R. Stowe Jr. said the driver of a white 2014 Chevrolet Express van was towing a pizza oven. The driver, identified as Brian Shields, 36, drifted across the center line in the road and collided with a brown 2007 Toyota Camry turning left onto Sandwich Road.

The collision caused the pizza oven being towed by Mr. Shields to overturn in the middle of Sandwich Road and catch fire. Bourne firefighters were able to douse the flames, Lt. Stowe said.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Mr. Shields was issued a citation for a marked lanes violation, Lt. Stowe said.
