Dates have been secured for two of the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce’s highly anticipated summer events: the Concerts on the Canal series of performances and Cape Cod Canal Day.
Canal Region Chamber of Commerce president and chief executive officer Marie J. Oliva appeared before the Bourne Board of Selectmen during its remote meeting on Tuesday, April 6. Ms. Oliva asked to have the dates for the events secured so that planning could get underway.
Concerts on the Canal will take place Thursday nights throughout July and August. Ms. Oliva noted that the chamber has been offering the annual concert series for more than 40 years. She added that the chamber feels confident that state guidelines relative to the pandemic will be loosened enough to allow the concerts to take place.
“We hire local bands, and we have a couple hundred people who come there every Thursday night,” she said. “It’s a wonderful family event.”
The specific dates and times requested for the concert series are July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM; as well as August 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. Specific performers for the series have not been announced yet.
Ms. Oliva also requested that Saturday, September 18, be reserved for Cape Cod Canal Day, to be held in Buzzards Bay Park. The event was not held last year due to the pandemic, so this will be the third year it is held, she said.
She assured the board that she will be submitting full applications for both events at a later date, once she has more information to share. She added that she will coordinate with the Bourne Board of Health on both events.
The selectmen gave unanimous approval to the dates for both chamber events.
