A Marion man is facing charges after police stopped his car for speeding on MacArthur Boulevard last Friday, January 31.
An officer in the area saw a vehicle pass by at a high rate of speed at 1:17 AM. The officer clocked the vehicle at 80 miles per hour in an area where the speed limit is 50 miles per hour. The officer conducted a traffic stop.
The operator of the car was identified as John H. Quirk, 53, of Marion. As the officer was speaking to him, the officer noted that he had bloodshot eyes, was slurring his speech, and smelled of alcohol.
Mr. Quirk was given a series of field sobriety tests, which he failed.
He was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and speeding and booked at the police station. He was later released on personal recognizance.
