Last Tuesday, August 17, the members of the Monument Beach Civic Associates presented a certificate of appreciation to The Whistle Stop Ice Cream Shop for its generous donation to the community’s ice cream social.
Monument Beach Civic Associates became reactivated in the fall of 2020 after several years of inactivity.
“One of the yearly events that the Civic Associates traditionally sponsored was a community ice cream social. Previously the ice cream was donated by our local village ice cream shop, The Whistle Stop Ice Cream Shop,” Julie Arnold, the group’s president, said. “The Civic Associates reached out to the new owners, Don and Wanda Myers, and asked them to continue the tradition. They gladly agreed.”
The ice cream social was held on July 12 at the Monument Beach Fire Station.
“Associates member Liz Duff lent her past experience organizing the event to help us make it a success,” Ms. Arnold said. “In addition to dishing out ice cream, there was face painting, fire hats and a clown to entertain the children. Despite the dreary weather, the village was once again happy to see this missed traditional event brought back.”
