One person was hurt in a three-vehicle, chain-reaction crash that occurred on Scenic Highway in Buzzards Bay last Thursday, May 14.

Bourne Police Lieutenant John R. Stowe Jr. said the crash, which  happened around 12:22 PM, involved a Massachusetts Department of Transportation pickup truck, a 1994 Peterbilt tractor trailer and a van owned by International Upright Services from North Oxford.

The crash happened about a half-mile from the traffic lights at the entrance to Bourne Scenic Park headed east toward Sagamore, Lt. Stowe said. The area is being prepared for repaving of the highway, he said.

Lt. Stowe said the MassDOT truck and the van had stopped to allow construction equipment to cross the highway. The driver of the tractor trailer was going too fast and could not stop in time. He crashed into the rear of the pickup truck, which then crashed into the rear of the van.

The driver of the tractor trailer was identified as Shawn Tracey, 58, of Middleboro. Mr. Tracey was cited for speed greater than reasonable under the conditions.

The driver of the van was taken by ambulance to Tobey Hospital in Wareham with non-life-threatening injuries, Lt. Stowe said.
