Two people from Sagamore Beach were arrested on drunk driving charges near the West Rotary in Buzzards Bay.
The arrests happened at 1:42 AM Saturday, September 7.
Bourne Police Lieutenant Jonathan R. MacDougall said an officer on patrol saw the driver of a white 2014 Nissan Maxima going the wrong way around the rotary. The car left the rotary and entered Lincoln Avenue, where it was stopped by the officer, Lt. MacDougall said.
The driver was identified as Orianna N. Carestia, 29, from Sagamore Beach. The officer detected the odor of alcohol, Lt. MacDougall said, and had Ms. Carestia exit the car for a field sobriety test.
At the same time, a white 2018 Ford F350 pickup truck arrived, the lieutenant said. The driver of the truck, identified as John W. DiCarlo, 34, exited his vehicle and started yelling at the officer, Lt. MacDougall said.
“He started shouting, ‘What’s going on?’” the lieutenant said.
The lieutenant said it was clear that the two knew each other and had come from somewhere in Wareham, although it was uncertain where they had been.
Another officer arrived on the scene and led Mr. DiCarlo back to his truck, the lieutenant said. The first officer on the scene conducted a field sobriety test of Ms. Carestia and determined that she failed. The officer also located an open bottle of beer inside her car, he said.
She was charged with wrong-way operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, Lt. MacDougall said.
The second officer on the scene administered a field sobriety test to Mr. DiCarlo, which he failed. He was also charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, the lieutenant said.
Both Ms. Carestia and Mr. DiCarlo were later released on personal recognizance, he said.
