A power outage in Bournedale left more than 500 people without power Sunday night, May 23.

Virginia Anthony, spokesperson for Eversource, said 576 of the company’s customers were without power for about 40 minutes Sunday.

Power was fully restored at 7:40 PM, Ms. Anthony said.

Early reports were that a transformer on Scenic Highway near the Herring Run Rest Area had caught fire causing a power outage. Traffic lights and street lights were out from Edgehill Road to Church Lane in Bournedale.

The Bourne Fire Department posted the news on social media around 7:20 PM. The fire department cautioned drivers to “slow down and look for other cars.”

Fire department officials said firefighters and members of the Bourne Police Department searched the immediate area of the outage but were unable to locate a transformer on fire.

Ms. Anthony said early reports of a transformer catching fire were inaccurate. The official cause of the outage was “a fault on private conductors feeding a quarry,” she said.
