A rally in support of the Black Lives Matter movement will be held in Buzzards Bay on Thursday, June 4, at 2 PM.
Rally organizers have asked people attending the event to meet at Buzzards Bay Park. The rally was originally scheduled to be held at the Bourne Bridge Rotary.
The rally is in honor of George Floyd, the black man from Minneapolis who died when a white police officer pressed a knee against Mr. Floyd’s neck for more than eight and a half minutes, as he pleaded for air.
Mr. Floyd's death has sparked outrage and protests across the country.
The officer, Derek Chauvin, has been charged with third degree murder and manslaughter. Three other officers who stood by and did not attempt to stop Mr. Chauvin have been fired from the Minneapolis police force, but they have not been charged yet.
On Sunday, May 31, a dozen people gathered at Buzzards Bay Park, holding up signs and adding their voices to the Black Lives Matter movement.
