One person is dead after a car burst into flames when it crashed into a tree in Sagamore Beach.

The crash happened around 1:30 AM Tuesday, May 25. Bourne police reported that police and firefighters were called to the scene in front of 330 Old Plymouth Road, at the intersection with Ocean Pines Drive.

The car, a gray 2008 Hyundai Elantra, was owned by a resident of Sagamore Beach, Bourne police said. The car had major front-end damage and was fully engulfed in flames up against a tree, police said.

Bourne Police Lieutenant Brandon M. Esip identified the driver as Colin Crowley, 20, from Sagamore Beach. Mr. Crowley was the sole occupant of the car, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Lt. Esip said.

The cause of the crash is unknown and under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction team, Lt. Esip said.

A GoFundMe page has been created for a memorial fund to help the Crowley family during this difficult time. Visit https://gf.me/v/c/sl93/colin-crowley-memorial-fund.
