Two drivers are recovering after a two-vehicle crash on Scenic Highway.

Bourne Deputy Fire Chief Joseph J. Carrara Jr. said the crash happened around 10:50 AM Thursday, March 19.

The cars collided head-on in a stretch of the highway between Bourne Scenic Park and Edgehill Road, Deputy Chief Carrara said.

Traffic was reduced to one lane for a brief period of time. Firefighters were on the scene for a little more than half an hour, Deputy Chief Carrara said.

“There was a ton of debris to clean up,” he said.

The crash involved a gray 2003 Toyota Camry and a gray 2009 Ford Econoline van. Each vehicle had only the driver inside, he said. Both drivers were taken to Tobey Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, he said.

Bourne Police Sergeant John R. Stowe said the Camry was driven by a 19-year-old female from Anston, Connecticut.

The young woman was headed east on the highway, toward Sagamore. She crossed over the road into oncoming traffic and collided with the van, Sgt. Stowe said.

The sergeant said the exact cause of the crash was unknown, but there were several inches of water on the road when it occurred. The driver of the Camry was not identified because charges had not been brought against her yet, he said.
