The Bourne Fire Department has provided an update on the injuries sustained in a multi-vehicle crash on Sandwich Road on Monday.

Bourne Fire Lieutenant Shawn M. Silva clarified earlier reports that all the injuries were minor. Lt. Silva said that at least two people suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries from the crash.

One person was taken to the trauma center at Rhode Island Hospital. The other victim was taken to Cape Cod Hospital, Lt. Silva said. He did not elaborate any further on the nature of the injuries.

Lt. Silva added that six other people involved in the crash were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries. Five people were evaluated and treated at the scene. They were not transported, Lt. Silva said.

The crash happened around noon on Monday, on Sandwich Road near Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School and Gallo Ice Arena. Bourne police and Massachusetts State Police reported that five cars were involved in the crash.

Massachusetts State Police said that three of the vehicles involved in the crash were a 2016 Dodge Ram, a 2014 Honda Accord, and a 2014 Honda Pilot. All five vehicles had to be towed from the scene, state police said.

The incident is under investigation. State police have not provided any information on the cause of the crash and say no charges have yet been brought against anyone.
