Anita M. Flanagan, 79, of Bourne died May 26 at Bourne Manor Extended Care Facility.

She was the daughter of Henry August Thormahlen and Mary Margaret (Hodge) Thormahlen.

Born in South Charleston, West Virginia, she was raised in Dorchester. She was educated at Girls’ Latin School in Dorchester, then went on to Northeastern University. After raising her family, she continued her education at Harvard School of Public Health.

Ms. Flanagan enjoyed a rewarding career in public relations, working with companies in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

In her spare time she pursued traveling, cooking and reading; later, in retirement, she enjoyed writing novels.

She leaves a son, Michael Flanagan and his wife, Maureen Flanagan, of Plymouth; a daughter, Shea Flanagan of Wesley, Arkansas; and three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Michaela and Erin Flanagan.

She was preceded in death by her mother in 2012 and by her father in 2015; and also by her brother, Henry A. Thormahlen Jr.
