Elizabeth M. Songer, who was known as Bette, died at age 89 on Sunday, December 5.

A religious education teacher and director, she spent many Sundays on the altar serving as a Eucharistic Minister. She also found comfort in bringing the Eucharist to the elderly in nursing facilities in the area. In more recent years she volunteered her time in various capacities for local organizations. She served on numerous boards and helped on whatever level she was able despite her failing vision.

She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Keith E. Songer.

She leaves her five children, Therese Sheehan and her husband, Richard Sheehan, of Maynard; Mark Songer and his wife, Tina Songer, of Sandwich; Kyle Songer of Bourne; Leanne Songer Avakian and her husband, Mark Avakian, of Bourne; and Daron Songer and his wife, Annie Songer, of Bourne. She also leaves her sister, Suzanne Serafini of Leominster; as well as 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other family.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, December 13, at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church at 141 Main Street in Buzzards Bay.

Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
