Francis J. DeMello of Dennisport, who leaves family in Buzzards Bay, died July 7 after a four-year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 74.

A former resident of Scituate, Mr. DeMello began his teaching career there and then taught in West Bridgewater, where he remained for 36 years. He retired in 2007 and moved permanently to his home on Cape Cod.

In addition to being an educator, he also was a musician and tennis player.

He leaves his wife, Mary Ann (Willey) DeMello; four children, Christopher DeMello of Buzzards Bay, Kate Chase of Duxbury, Joshua DeMello of Farmington, Maine, and Caryn Coyne of Georgia; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Audrey (Walczak) DeMello. 

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, July 17, at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich.
