John A. Apone, 92, of Buzzards Bay died April 9 at Keystone Place in Bourne.

He was the husband of the late Helen (Whiting) Apone.

The son of Michele and Adelina (Malzone) Apone, he was born in the Hyde Park section of Boston.

Mr. Apone was a graduate of Fitchburg State College, receiving a bachelor’s degree, and of Westfield State College, receiving a master’s degree.

Mr. Apone was a US Army veteran of World War II.

He worked as a woodshop teacher for the Ludlow School Department. He enjoyed woodworking, making hand-carved birds and clocks. He also loved walking with his hand-carved walking stick. He was active with the Lions Club in Ludlow, Cape Cod, Dennis and Melbourne, Florida, as well as on a national level.

He leaves a son, Gregory Apone; a brother, Thomas Apone of Hingham; and a sister, Filomena Neri of Buzzards Bay. He also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews; and other family members.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Apone; and brothers Domenic, Annunziato and Salvatore Apone.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
