Mary Ellen Burgess, a lifelong resident of Bourne, died October 12 after a brief illness. She was 44.

She was the daughter of Leonard L. and Elaine R. (Mitchell) Burgess of Buzzards Bay and the youngest of their five children.

Ms. Burgess graduated from Bourne High School in 1995 and went on to study at Westfield State College. From there she worked as a teller trainer and, later, for the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.

A holiday enthusiast, she loved decorating for all occasions. She enjoyed long days at the beach during summer, going to concerts, and rescuing and fostering animals.

She leaves a sister and two brothers, Kathleen A. Burgess, Jeffrey S. Burgess and Thomas D. Burgess, all of Buzzards Bay; her nieces and nephews; and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and also by her brother James E. Burgess.

Visitation will be Friday, October 22, from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Boulevard in Bourne, followed by a funeral Mass celebrated at 10 o'clock at St. Margaret's Church, 141 Main Street, Buzzards Bay.

Burial will be at Sagamore Cemetery on Sandwich Road.
