Myrtle Rae Forest of Bourne, who was known as Tootsie, died November 23. Ms. Forest was 85 and leaves family in Sandwich.

Born in Watha, North Carolina, she was the youngest of the eight children of Coleman G. Warrick and Ella (Langston) Warrick. She grew up in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

She married Normand Forest in 1957 and they settled in Springfield to raise their family.

An accomplished Southern cook and baker, Ms. Forest's signature dishes were pork barbecue, ham hocks and black-eyed peas, fish fry and hush puppies.

She leaves her sons, Dale Forest and his wife, Kathleen Forest, of Sandwich and Normand Forest and his wife, Patricia Forest, of Connecticut; five grandchildren, Dale Shannin, Drew, Shae, Jason and Jennifer Forest; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2008; and also by her four sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 2, at noon at Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall Street in Ludlow, followed by burial at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street in Agawam.
