Richard I. White Jr., 80, died May 29 in his home at Keystone Place at Buzzards Bay.

Born in Medford, he graduated from Arlington High School. He spent most of his adult life in Orleans living with his parents.

Mr. White was a custodian at Nauset Middle School for more than 30 years.

He was known as always having a story to share and could offer advice on any subject.

He raised a plentiful garden, built birdhouses and rocking horses in his workshop, crocheted countless blankets, caned chairs, and crafted leather belts and wallets.

Mr. White supported the Wareham Gateman of the Cape Cod Baseball League, even throwing out the first pitch one time. He won multiple medals in the Special Olympics for swimming, running, bowling and track and field events.

A memorial to celebrate his life will be Thursday, June 10, from 5 to 7 PM with a service of prayer at 6:45, at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way in Orleans.
