Richard Jackson

Richard L. Jackson of Monument Beach died on July 19 at Bourne Manor. He was 89.

He was the husband of Eileen (Lohr) Jackson, to whom he was married for 60 years.

He was the son of Ernest W. and Dorothy (Lewis) Jackson.

A native Cape Codder, he was born in Hyannis and graduated from Bourne High School with the Class of 1948.

Mr. Jackson was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving for 13 years, including during the Korean War.

Following his military service, he worked as a self-employed carpenter; he and his wife lived for many years in a home that he had built. Mr. Jackson also was the caretaker of the Old Bourne Cemetery.

He was an active member of the Bourne Historical Society.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Nancy L. Hoff and her husband, Douglas Hoff, of Madbury, New Hampshire; two grandchildren, Nathan Hoff of Waitsfield, Vermont, and Rebecca Hoff of Boston; a nephew, Robert W. Bilodeau; and other family.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Laurence Jackson and Dorothy Bilodeau.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 17, from 10 to 11 AM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Boulevard in Bourne. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM.

Burial will be at the Old Bourne Cemetery.
