Robert E. Smith Jr. of Apollo Beach, Florida, who had been a member of Bourne Fire Department for nearly three decades, died October 14. Mr. Smith died at the age of 67 after a battle with a rare blood disorder.

He was the son of Robert E. Smith Sr. and Eleanor (Trench) Smith.

After graduating from Bourne High School, he worked at several jobs; he was a volunteer firefighter and a hockey coach. In 1977 Mr. Smith joined the Bourne Fire Department, retiring after a 28-year career.

He enjoyed boating, fishing and horseback riding.

He leaves his wife, Laura Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Mandy and Tony Wagner, son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. Smith III and Jeanette Smith, and daughter Wendy Smith; two siblings, Paul Smith and Vikki Ciampa; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A private spiritual celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 24.
