Susan M. Maguire, 67, of Bourne died July 13 at Wingate Nursing Center in Needham.

Born in Dorchester, she was the daughter of the late Doris (Connors) and John G. Maguire.

She was raised in Dorchester and Hyde Park and was a graduate of St. Clare High School in Roslindale. She attended Suffolk University and Stonehill College, majoring in journalism.

Ms. Maguire began her career at New England Telephone as a teenager working summers in Dorchester  as an operator before moving into management.

She loved to read and travel. She had visited Europe multiple times as well as Alaska, Bermuda and the Caribbean, and once participated in an African safari.

She was a 39-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Ms. Maguire had also lived in Sagamore Beach, Canton and Hyde Park.

She leaves her siblings, Jane Webb of Canton, John Maguire of Westboro, Paula Prendergast of Pembroke, Robert Maguire of Key West, Florida, and Marie Macrorie of Winchester; nine nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 17, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street in Canton.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton.

Burial is private.
