If only one voter of 497 on Monday night agreed that the town’s ban on marijuana dispensaries should have been overturned, history would have traveled a different course. One voter could have added a safeguard against underage use and maybe misuse of marijuana.

But the specious argument that allowing legal dispensaries in Bourne would lead to greater, not less, availability of marijuana to young people prevailed. That is unfortunate.
