A little over a month ago, a proposed resolution was filed with the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates which sought to improperly shame and censure me for publicly criticizing some members of the county’s legislative branch on my own personal social media accounts.

At one point, the proposed resolution was formally scheduled on an official meeting notice and agenda of that government entity, but was abruptly and hastily removed for some inexplicable reason at the last minute.

It needs to be brought to light that, from my perspective, the effort in question was politically motivated by certain members of the Assembly of Delegates, whose plan is apparently to run for Barnstable County commissioner in 2020.

The specific assembly delegates in question need to make things right with the public by openly and transparently admitting that they had misled the public about the true reasons for the proposed resolution against me, and need to make every effort going forward to be honest with the public.

It is during times like this when organized efforts are made to censor and silence a person simply for expressing fairly innocuous and straightforward criticisms that we should reflect upon why our founding fathers were sure to include the right of freedom of speech within the First Amendment to our Constitution.

About 1989 or so, in the case of Texas versus Johnson, Supreme Court Justice William Joseph Brennan Jr. is credited with stating: “If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that the government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable.”

For me, I believe the First Amendment to the Constitution is there to help protect not only me, but all American citizens, from tyranny, tyranny like the the venomous political harassment and attempted intimidation that has apparently been directed at me for what truly was much ado about nothing.
