In Bourne, recycling never goes on vacation.

Please remember to bag your trash and place it in the blue cart with the black cover. However, do not bag your recyclables; place them loose in the cart with the blue cover. Please rinse plastic containers, bottles, jars and cans before recycling.

Plastic bags are not recyclable via curbside, and I am pleased to share the good news that we may once again shop with our own reusable bags instead of depending on store-generated, single-use plastic bags.

The town has made single-stream recycling convenient for visitors and residents alike by placing single-stream carts in public spaces. It is important to note that the containers should not be overflowing and household trash should not be left in or near them.

On behalf of the Bourne Recycling Committee, I would like to thank the employees in the department of public works and Integrated Solid Waste Management for the professional manner in which they handle our town’s collection of trash and recyclables. We appreciate the work of all town employees all times of the year, but the hot and humid summer season seems like a good time to single out these hard-working men and women who put in long hours in difficult conditions to manage waste collection. Without their help, our town’s single-stream recycling program would not enjoy the success it does.
